Shifting to remote work can be a bit of a bumpy ride, especially at the start. And if you’ve never had experience with working remotely or it was thrust upon you during the pandemic without much thought or preparation.
There isn’t a manual on how to do this right because of the nature of remote work. There’s a lot of free time that can come with working remotely but if you’re a bit of a mess with your scheduling on top of all the things that you do in your daily life then you might be approaching burnout soon.
Here are our top tips on how to take care of yourself as a remote worker!
- Boundaries are essential
It can be easy to mistakenly blend your work life with your home life when you’re working from home. And that is why it’s important to schedule your days accordingly. While your job is important, it’s only part of your life.
Giving yourself a set time to finish your work and giving yourself time to tend to your home life and relaxation is essential in keeping things balanced. You might need to do a bit of trial and error but once you hit that sweet spot, things can flow a lot smoother.
2. Develop your interests outside of work
This is our number 1 tip for anyone who is a workaholic! As we mentioned, your job is just part of your life and it’s important to develop your other interests outside of work that doesn’t need to bear any sort of responsibility or profit.
As we mentioned, setting boundaries is essential, and filling the hours of your day with something that brings you joy and relaxation!
3. Invest in your health
We’re not saying that you should push yourself to become some sort of health buff. But we do strongly encourage being more mindful of your health. Whether that’s by going for a walk or being more mindful of what you eat a couple of times in the week.
And, this also includes your mental health! Everyone’s way of taking care of their mental health is different and the tips we mentioned all can help in taking care of your mental health. But if you’re open to trying more mindful exercises such as meditation or yoga, we strongly encourage it!
